Paru's Cardmaking Challenges - Birthday

Good morning! I'm so excited to tell you that I am the July Guest at Paru's Cardmaking Challenges! This month's theme is Birthday.

I was inspired by Donna's card here. And I made quite a few panels before I managed to settle on a colour combination, good spacing and to get everything masked, sponged and stamped properly!

I cut the balloon out of masking paper (one for each colour) and used the negative space, distress ink and a swirling motion to fill in with a lighter centre, which gives a bit of dimension. I spritzed the balloons for more texture and interest. I knew that some bold black would give this pretty card a graphic feel. And of course, you can't have a birthday without some sparkle!

I used:
-Neat & Tangled Classic Tag 1
-MFT Patterned Paper
-MFT Silver Sparkle Cardstock

Muse 222 - Get Well Soon

Here's my card for this week's Muse, where Kim brought us this sweet summery scene:

I focused on Kim's:
-window of blended colour
-floral theme
-colours
-black script sentiment

I started by masking a circle on my panel and stamping the A Jillian Vance Design daisies. I masked the daisies and blended some blue and green to create my background. I combined the bee and flower elements by colouring the daisies in bee-like colours - yellow with dark centres, using copics. Then I embossed the panel with a pierced circle die to mimic the piercing around Kim's window. I stamped my sentiment and added some Stickles to the petals of the daisies.

I used:
-Flutters and Flowers
-Showers of Blessings

SugarPea Designs Mix it Up #32 - Celebrate!

There's still a few more days for you to play along with this month's SugarPea Designs Mix it Up Challenge! Here's the inspiration:

As usual, I tried to combine both the photo and the sketch.

I focused on:
-colours (red, white, black with a touch of green)
-circular focal element
-floral theme
-diagonal panel with design element toward the bottom left

I started by placing the Striped Background stamp in my MISTI and masking off all but 3 stripes. I inked those up with Altenew's Ruby Red.

Then I cut a stitched circle from Beautiful Bauble as well as a black Celebrate. I then cut the Celebrate out of the white circle and inlaid the black sentiment, extending beyond the circle's edges. I stamped the rest of the sentiment (from Celebrate all the Things) and then edged the circle with Star Dust Stickles.

Finally, I stamped flowers from Bring on the Cake. I stamped the centres and leaves with tiny stamps from Funky Wreath: Spring Additions

IB62 - Brighten My Day

This is my colourful card for this week's Inspired by All the Little Things:

I focused on the bright umbrellas and the way they overlapped each other. To try to get a similar look, I inked up a background stamp with Tombow Dual-Brush pens (but I'm sure it would work with any water-based markers, including Zig Art&Graphic Twin Tip Markers), then spritzed it with water before pressing it onto some watercolour cardstock. I love that you can still see the shapes and curves, but the colours have run and blended a bit. I created my sentiment from two different stamp sets, using some creative masking. Here's a video:

I should have kept the camera on a little longer - I just dabbed those darker areas with a paper towel and the colours 'cleared' right up.

FS542, CTS227 - You Make Me Smile

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper,  AJ Bodine, aka rutabagapie . I chose this card as my inspiration:

I also am linking up to this week's CAS(E) This Sketch:

I focused on:
-colour scheme
-horizontal stripes (one in a different colour)
-sunshine focal image

I changed:
-added black
-proportions of stripes and yellow element
-layout

I started by masking and blending a square white panel with distress ink stripes. I then spritzed it for some interest (not too much, because this isn't watercolour paper). Then I cut out the smile and the sun from the panel and inlaid with grey (for the smile) and a separately-blended-and-cut sun. One of the fun things about my little square cards (4.25x4.25) is that you can have things hanging off the edges and they'll still fit into an A2 envelope! I stamped the sentiment and then popped up the panel on foam tape.

Coffee Lovers' Blog Hop (SPD)

Today, we're hopping with the Coffee Lovers' Blog Hop!

I had some fun using these SugarPea Designs products:

-Perfect Blend
-Class Act
-Caffeine Addict
-Coffee To Go Cups

Don't you just love the size of the coffee compared to the woman? I know many coffee drinkers feel like this!

I started with a craft panel and created a frame with the line of beans. I cut the cup and sleeve and stamped the sentiment and 'caffeine addict' label.  Next, I stamped and die cut my coffee-drinker. Here's a video of the copic colouring.

Coffee Lovers' Blog Hop (AJVD)

Today, the A Jillian Vance Design team is participating in the Coffee Lovers' Blog Hop. Since I'm currently guest designing for AJVD this summer, I thought I would join in.

When I first saw this stamp set, I laughed out loud. Given the current political agenda in Canada of legalizing marijauna the word 'pothead' brings out the immature me. Such a fun, slightly shocking pun.

I stamped a tone-on-tone background using the various sentiments in Pothead, then stamped this super-cool, graphic coffee pot. I colured the coffee with copics and then cinnamon stickles.

Muse221 - Thanks, Jenni

Here's my card for Jenni's final challenge at Muse. She gave us this inspiration:

But, really, I feel like I should be thanking her - I have so enjoyed having her as a member of the Muse DT over the last year or so and we will miss her inspiration for sure!

I focused on Jenni's:
-square card
-thank you theme
-colours

I used:
